13.10 LightDM crashing under VMWare 10

Hi,

I'm running 13.10 in a VMWare VM.

Now and again (more often than not) booting up freezes with a black screen and blinking cursor. The Light DM screen flashes up briefly before this which tells me it this that is lightdm that is crashing.

If I press CTRL+F1 and I can log in and then use :

This get's me into the desktop.

Very odd. I've applied all updates and the problem persists.

Any idea how I can get to the bottom of this. It's very annoying.
