[ubuntu] Distrted fonts

Hi there

Every now and again when using no specific application, no specific letter, type face nor size, occasionally one letter will be distorted, shows as a random collection of dots where the letter should be. Sometimes hi-lighting as if I was going to cut/copy resolves. I have only noticied this in the last month. Any ideas on how to fix this please?
