VMWare Tools on LUbuntu 14.04 running within VMWare Workstation 10.0.3

I have upgraded my kernel (automatically to 3.13) manually to 3.16.0-31-generic and attempted to install VMwareTools-9.6.2-1688356 that comes built-in with VMWare Workstation 10.0.3 (which I am running on OpenSuSE 13.1 Host). However, I get the dreaded vmhgfs.ko failure when attempting to install that module into my kernel for shared folders.

I found https://github.com/rasa/vmware-tools-patches and followed the instructions on how to compile this into the VMwaretools package (very simple as there is a .sh file that does it all for you) and even after that, I still am not able to mount/see my shared folder!

What other information would I need to share to help get this working again. It's a music server that I and a few friends of mine all use (Madsonic), as well as Movie server (PlexMediaServer) that we use within the house to watch movies almost daily.

After VMWare Tools installed with the patch and no error's, I'm at a loss as to why the shared folder isn't showing up in Ubuntu.
