how do I setup xrandr??

So I'v posted here before and got help from T.J. about getting a kvm windows system running using qemu. when I did that setup I only had one monitor so switching inputs was how I viewed my windows, but now I have a second monitor and I would like to use both monitors for linux until I start my kvm guest. from what I've seen and read I need to use xrandr to do this but xrandr doesn't see my monitor that is plugged into the guest passthrough graphics card. So I was wondering if anyone had any idea of what I need to do.

my setup so far is:
-radeon hd 6670/7670 (for the host debian- plugged into screen 1)
-nvidia gtx 970 (for the guest windows 7-plugged into screen 2) {claimed by vfio-pci on boot}
-mouse/keboard = synergy

so using the xrandr command It sees screen 1 which is plugged into the radeon but it doesn't see screen 2 which is plugged into the 970. am I doing something wrong?

let me know what other info I need to post if any, and thanks in advance.
