VirtualBox GUI won't load after installation.

I installed VirtualBox on Ubuntu 14.04 using the instructions found on VirtualBox.org as well as the software center on Ubuntu. Both install but when loading the app the icon appears on the toolbar but the GUI never shows up. The installation didn't have any errors but still no GUI. Any idea where to start?
