I am interested in having a virtual computer that could serve web pages and provide some other functionality commonly required by desktop users. I think it might be possible using AWS (Amazon Web Services). Their websiteoffers virtual Ubuntu machines.
They have cheaper spot instances, too. I would only need to "use" the computer occasionally. I would like it to "wake up" if somebody visited its webpage. There would be very little traffic. :)
1) Could AWS be a good way forward, instead of buying an actual machine myself?
2) Am I able to easily back up my AWS virtual machine onto a local hard drive and then run it from there?
3) You are given a free elastic IP address. Could you use this for your website domain name?
4) What are some cool things that you could try with an AWS ubuntu machine?
5) I would love to hear any tips / suggestions you may have about this.
