Virtual box extension installed from both inside the box and from windows. Compiz restricted extras installed. I can't load emerald themes and I can't get extra visual effects to appear anywhere. (it should be in appearance?) I believe this is because you can only do this after loading proprietary or restricted drivers which do not appear in the list. It just says the x11 device is not working.
I have been googling endlessly and seem to see people saying you cant load nvidia drivers in VB guest and that you can and it works. I understand its a virtual card. I don't understand how some people seem to be saying they can get it to work. I remember some of these problems from a regular dual boot install but the added layer of the VB software has me confused. The pass thru method seems like a real headache?
I don't like dual boot because I always get stuck in one OS and I get rusty at the other. Its handy to run it in a virtual machine.
If I type emerald --replace nothing happens it just says "reloading." If I type compiz --replace i crash.
If I try to open more than one instance of firefox on a different desktop, I crash.
I have applied 3D settings in the win10 Nvidia control panel to virtual box.
Compiz desktop cube and wobbly windows are working (though the rotating cube has some weird visual distortions so it's not working right)
There are extra visual effects showing in compiz but not in appearance .
3D acceleration is checked in virtual machine and memory is maxed out.
Dell Inspiron7567 Win 10 Ubuntu 14.04 guest virtual box 5.1.28 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
I tried installing the Nvidia software in Ubuntu and got black screen finally and had to start over. Right now the system is using the VBox virtual video card and driver.
Thank you so much.
