I Have installed ubuntu 16.10 on vmware and i have resoultions problems.

if i open ubuntu full screen it gives me 1080x1920 if i try to save it this way the next time i start the os i get a long error messege that the screen does not support this resoultion when he is.
it is very strange i never had resoultion problems like this before with aubuntu.my video card is nvidia gigabyte gtx 1080 G1.do i need some other nvidia driver in order to fix this problem?
and one more thing is there a replacment for ubuntu-tweak?
